    Dr. Goldberg presents two cases: a patient with foveal-involving geographic atrophy and a patient with geographic atrophy who developed exudative age-related macular degeneration.

  • Learning Objectives

    Upon completion of this activity, the participant should be able to:

    • Review the prevalence of, and risk factors for, age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and geographic atrophy (GA)
    • Clarify how AMD and GA adversely affect patients’ health and lifestyle, as well as the health care system
    • Examine the complement system’s role in GA and outline which steps in the complement cascade may be effective therapeutic targets
    • Identify which clinical features indicate high risk of disease progression and formulate models for adjusting practice patterns in the event of drug approval
