    Drs. David Chang, Steve Dewey, Sam Garg, and Cathy McCabe present a series of complex phaco cases across 3 sections: (1) Phaco Techniques: Viscoelastic and Chopping, (2) Phaco Dynamics: Settings, Fluidics, and Power Modulation, and (3) Tools for Complex Cases: Laser Cataract Surgery, Capsular Tension Rings, Pupil Expansion Devices, etc. Throughout their case presentations and panel discussions, faculty share pearls for managing complex cataract extractions. This program was recorded at AAO 2021 in New Orleans.

  • Learning Objectives

    Upon completion of this activity, the participant should be able to:

    • Determine, customize, and modify phaco settings to maximize outcomes for complex cataract cases, and review the need to alter settings as necessary.
    • Analyze the key unique details of phacoemulsification functions in peristaltic and venturi pumps, fluidics and phaco power modulation, as well as techniques for nuclear disassembly and hydrodissection in complex cataract cases.
    • Review best practices for phacoemulsification and surgical techniques to maximize outcomes in complex cataract cases.
