The AMD Treatment Burden: The Problem and Possible Solutions
Overview
Arshad M. Khanani, MD, MA; and Nancy M. Holekamp, MD, review how the treatment of neovascular AMD has changed over the years, from thermal laser to different dosing strategies of anti-VEGFs, plus real-world experience with these regimens. They also discuss novel investigational therapies and how they are expected to have a positive impact on the lives of retina patients. This continuing medical education activity is supported by an educational grant from Genentech. Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, the participant should be able to: - Describe the differences in real-world clinical outcomes with those from prospective clinical trials.
- Develop individualized treatment regimens for patients with AMD who may benefit from treatments with longer duration.
- Discuss newer compounds in development or recently approved that are designed to improve visual outcomes while decreasing treatment burden.
